Procedures for Requesting a Study Room Assignment
I. New Applications
- Requests for study room applications are available on our website at (http://library.cmich.edu) under the Book a Room feature.
- All applicants will be notified of the decision by e-mail.
- The key for you study room is available for check out at the Book Checkout Desk located on the 2nd floor of the library. The key will be checked out only to the person to whom the study room has been assigned. If the key is lost or is not returned there will be a $50.00 replacement charge.
- First time use of your key requires filling out an Individual Study Room Key Receipt form.
- In order to accommodate the demand for individual study rooms, study room usage is routinely monitored and rooms that have been underutilized may be reassigned.
- Study room assignments expire at the end of the academic year unless requested for one semester only or the summer, where they expire at the end of that period.
II. Renewal Applications
- Applicants may request a renewal for one additional academic year after their initial year of usage. After that time priority will be given to new applicants and extra renewal years will be granted only if rooms are available.
- Renewal request notifications will be delivered to the study rooms approximately four weeks prior to their initial assignment expiring.
- Renewal requests must be submitted prior to the expiration date by the online request form.
- Renewals will not be granted to:
- Persons who have not made extensive use of the study room space.
- Persons who have violated any study room policies.
Policies Governing the Use of Study Room
I. Use of Study Rooms
- Smoking is not allowed in the building.
- Each study room is provided with a desk, a chair, wastebasket, and a bookcase. Personal furniture is not allowed in the study room. Additional library furniture, including book carts, is not to be moved into the study room nor should library furniture be removed.
- Posters and other items should not be affixed to study room walls or to windows.
- Study rooms are intended for scholarly use only. They are not to be used as office space or work areas for teaching or research assistants.
- No food is allowed. Drinks in spill proof containers only.
II. Library Materials Left in Study Rooms
- All library materials must be checked out. Any materials that are not available for check out, such as reference books, etc. must not be kept in the study room.
- Library staff check the study rooms periodically. Materials not checked out will be removed and returned to the shelves. If this happens more than once the study room assignment may be terminated.
