Administration
Dean of Libraries’ Office - Answer phones and greet visitors, schedule meetings on Netscape Calendar, filing, copying, process outgoing mail, and assist with various special projects as assigned. Must be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel (Access a plus), Publisher, and Adobe PageMaker.
Access Services
Some weekend and evening hours are required. Public Service experience preferred.
Circulation Services - Provide related customer service at the Check-Out desk and by phone, process patron records, check-out/in library material, maintain material use statistics, service copy machines and printers, and process new books.
Facilities - Provide a variety of customer service responsibilities, set up meeting rooms for various events, give library tours and other duties as assigned.
Library and Extended Hours Study Room Monitors - Roam the library during evening hours to provide patron assistance. Assist in clearing and the building, the Extended Hours Study Room and Café prior to closing the building.
Reserve - Provide customer service at the Reserve Desk, organize and process material for the Reserve collection, charge and discharge Reserve material, process current periodicals and maintain Mary Dow Reading Room, perform shelf reading and inventory of the Reserve Collection. Maintains in-house use statistics for current periodicals and Reserve material.
Stack Maintenance - Arrange and shelve books and periodicals. Maintain in house use statistics for books, microforms and periodicals. Straighten, shift and shelf read book and periodical stacks. Maintain material use statistics and perform functions related to material inventory. Assist patrons at the microform desk. Process, file and maintain microforms.
Business Services
General office duties to include: filing, copying, typing of invoices and various forms, assist with payroll by proofing timesheets and sorting and delivering checks, sorting and delivery of mail and supplies in the Library, errands to other offices on campus.
Clarke Historical Library
Student assistants may do a variety of duties to include: retrieving and reshelving books, assist patrons, photocopying, researching information in newspapers, computer projects, microfilming, and special projects like organizing pictures or letters.
Interlibrary Loan
Research and obtain off campus library materials for CMU patrons and provide CMU library materials to off campus patrons. Typical duties would include: provide customer service to patrons, retrieve materials from CMU's library and process to send out to other libraries, process in-coming materials, keyboarding, photocopying, and scanning.
Off-Campus Library Services
Some weekend and evening hours are required.
Library support to CMU Extended Degree programs in over 70 locations. Answer phone and take material requests. Searching call numbers on CENTRA and retrieving materials requested. Process requested material for mailing. Other duties include: copying, filing, assisting with acquisitions and copyright orders, assisting reference librarians, typing and data entry.
Reference
Some weekend and evening hours are required.
Reference - Assisting patrons in use of the Library. Provide instruction and tours to high school groups. Shelf-reading and shelving of books. Work at Information Desk and provide general information about the library. ENG/LIB 197 is required.
Government Documents - Processing, filing and shelving of all new government publications. Process materials returned from bindery. File updates in law materials. Process new maps and maintain map drawers. Re-file and re-shelve materials in proper order.
Technical Services
Authorities - Database maintenance and on-line data entry. Retrieval of data from remote and local computer locations, route materials within the library and retrieval of materials from library shelves. Minimal typing required, computer literacy helpful.
Bindery - Retrieval of materials from library shelves, processing of materials to be sent for binding, process returned shipments. Computer/Typing experience needed. Organizational skills necessary.
Monographs - assist in research to locate materials to purchase and place material orders using on-line programs. Check-in and process new materials for shelving. Computer experience helpful.
Serials - Process all new serial material (i.e., journals, magazines, newspapers). Data entry and file maintenance. Assist in updating library database. General office duties including possible word processing/spreadsheets. Computer experience helpful but not required.
Systems
Install microcomputer software and set up microcomputers and peripherals. Assist in software and hardware inventory. Hardware trouble shooting. Automation problem solving. Documentation support. Computer experience is required.
