Off-Campus Library Services

The Off-Campus Library Services (OCLS) department at CMU serves the library resource and information needs of students and faculty participating in the off-campus and online courses offered through CMU’s Off-Campus Programs. OCLS has been in existence since 1976 and is recognized as a national leader in delivering library services to distance learners.

OCLS librarians provide research assistance to students and faculty by telephone, email, web form, and chat interface as well as by delivering formal class instruction in both face-to-face and online settings. The Document Delivery Office provides rapid electronic delivery of articles and book chapters and mail delivery of print books to distance patrons. The Copyright Specialist works with faculty to prepare electronic coursepacks of documents.

Additionally, OCLS plans, organizes, and hosts the Off-Campus Library Services Conference, a biennial event that brings together an international group of librarians to explore and champion the philosophy and methods of delivering library services to distance learners.
