The children’s literature collection, which had been housed in the Instructional Materials Center in Ronan Hall until mid-December 2008, is now part of the collections in Park Library. Named in honor of CMU alumna, Betty A. McDonald, the children’s literature collection is housed on the 4th floor of the Library in the northeast corner.
This 24,000 item collection consists of picture books as well as children’s and young adult fiction and non-fiction. Many of these books are winners of prestigious children’s literature prizes such as the Caldecott, Newbery, Coretta Scott King, and Batchelder Awards. The Betty A. McDonald Children’s Literature Collection supports the study of children’s literature in both the English department and Teacher Education programs by locating primary and critical works on the same floor in the library.
